Admission to the gallery is free! Located on the south bank of the River Thames at Bankside, near Blackfriars Bridge, opposite St Paul's Cathedral and next to the Globe Theatre, even the walk to the Tate Modern is well worth it- and lovely pubs along the river invite to an after-visit-drink... Anyhow, Britain's national museum of Modern Art displays the world famous Tate collection, including international modern and contemporary art - e.g. major and contemporary works by Matisse, Picasso, Matthew Barney, Chris Ofili and Gerhard Richter. Accompanied by Talks, Discussions, Films, Gallery Tours, Music, Performances.

However, Tate has the largest collection of works by J M W Turner in the world, owing altogether almost 60,000 works , including British works from 1500 to the present day and twentieth century works by both British and International artists - and: as mentioned on the homepage
"...donations from visitors are needed to support the gallery's work, you can also help by visiting the Café and restaurant..." - so, grab a coffee and waste the rest of the day with extreme-people-watching...

One of the best walks in London is along the South Bank (from Tower Bridge to Waterloo), but the addition of the Tate Modern along the path has made has now made this an key part of any sightseeing trip to London.
