One of two main squares in Prague's city centre (+ Old Town Square, 5 minutes walking distance), Wenceslas Square is a vibrant area and a very popular place to stay.
Vaclavske Namesti , like it is called in Czech, is mostly known for its entertainment and nightlife - and Prague's main shopping area. However, the square is definately a good starting point if planning to explore the city with easy walking access to all sights and attractions anywhere in the centre of "The Golden City"- with the monumental National Museum right behind the square and the famous Prague State Opera just off to the left. Anyway, originally the city's main horse market, the 750m long and 60m wide boulevard was laid out over 600 years ago and houses the statue of St. Wenceslas, the good King Wenceslas (Vaclav), on his horse - a Czech national hero who got
murdered by his brother over a thousand years ago...
