Admission: 6,00 euros

What had only been host to temporary exhibitions before , was opened as the Permanent Collection of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofa (simply The Sofia) by their Majesties King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofa in 1992.

Finally a true museum, Reina Sophia, Spain's national museum of 20th century art, is looking after, increasing and exhibiting its artistic collections ever since... considering its main aim "to encourage public access to the various manifestations of modern and contemporary art in order to increase knowledge and promote formation, and favour the social communication of the plastic arts."

Not to be missed: excellent collections of Spain's two greatest 20th century masters: Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dal.

One of the Madrid's "Big Three" - definately a must on your to-do-list...
