One of the few central-European cities not reduced to rubble and ashes due to World War II bombing, Prague was, nevertheless, left with somewhat empty spaces wanting to be filled with life again.

The impressive Rasin Building at the bank of Vltava, designed by the Californian architect Frank O. Gehry (mostly known for the Guggenheim Museum in Bilboa) and his Czech co-architect Vladimir Milunic, can be called lively indeed.

In an allusion to the American film icons Fred Astaire and Ginger Roger, the somewhat "dancing building" was soon to be called "Ginger & Fred".

No wonder, the building led to a lot of discussion and polarised ever since it was errected. Part of the tradition of deconstructive architecture also known as catastrophe architecture, the building stands unquestionable in distinct contrast to the building's historic setting.

However, perceived as an alien element by some, others read the bulidings seemingly unstable construction, a house about to collapse, as a suitable reminder of the destruction of the cityscape on this site due to American bombs.

Anyway, as always, it is best to get one's own picture of the 'dancing couple' and maybe appreciate the building's effect on people, often functioning as a reminder: we simply cannot do without dancing, poetry and harmonious dreams...
