Admission: 9 All roads lead to Rome and: there are 80 entrances to the Colosseum...

Originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, back in time the Colosseum, the giant amphitheatre in the center of the city , was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles . The largest ever built in the Roman Empire, the amphitheatre was originally capable of seating 45,000-50,000 spectators and was completed in 80 AD under Titus.

Anyway, the Colosseum has been featured in numerous films (Bruce Lee fought Chuck Norris in the Colosseum), but anyone expecting to see what he saw in Ridley Scott's 2000 film 'Gladiator', has to be told that for that purpose, the Colosseum was re-created via computer-generated imagery in order to show its former glory.

However, visiting the Colosseum today, the first thing you are likely to be stunned by are: long queues and an even longer queues...

But there are two ways to avoid waiting: buy a day-long pass or book a tour - otherwise, just munch on a slice of pizza and get lost in visions of animal hunts with creatures like rhinoceros, hippos, elephants, giraffes, lions, panthers, leopards, crocodiles and ostriches all happeneing in what can be called eborate sets - sometimes featuring movable trees and buildings...
