Definately one of the most popular attractions in Berlin, often known from scenes of the the 1987 Wim Wenders movie "Der Himmel über Berlin" (English title: Wings of Desire). Anyway, while the movie shows the almost void square before the Fall of the Wall - today you'll see a different picture...
The square and traffic intersection can be found in the center of the city, south of the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag , and close to the south east corner of the Tiergarten park.
Right from the beginning of the building- phase of the square like it is today, right after the Fall of the Wall in 1998, the whole project has been the subject of much criticism. Talking to Berliners it is noticeable that many still refuse to accept, let alone like the district and the way it was replanned and commercialized.
Anyhow, tourists are drawn to its mix of restaurants, shopping opportunities, theatre and cinemas and the square is visited by several thousand visitors a day- most likely to the surprise of its critics.
Once the largest building site in the whole of Europe, worth mentioning today is the new Sony European headquarters, the so called Sony Center by Helmut Jahn, often considered to be the finest piece of modern architecture Berlin has to offer - an impressive mixture of glass and steel.
Besides, this is the place to go if you are a movies-freak or just up for some mother-tongue entertainment. Here you'll find more than 40 screens in three cinemas, including an English speaking cinema, as well as a Film Academy and a Film Museum.

its quite cool for celebrity sightseeing! I was watching a movie and these two guys behind me kept talking about hollywood stuff..at first I thought they were just full of bull, BUT then everybody just kept staring at them...like a dum-dum, I was too proud to turn around...but I SUSPECT that it was Matt Damon as I heard that he was in town that week!!!

I guess the sony centre itself does look quite impressive. It is a good place to go and watch movies or grab some free wi-fi too.
