In summary, Berlin would be unimaginable without the Departament Store of the West (Kaufhaus des Westens). The largest department store in European is more than a well-stocked shopping paradise: KaDeWe can be called a legend.
Opening in 1907 on Wittenbergplatz, Tauentzienstrasse 21/24, designed by the architect Emil Schaudt and taking the architecture of the nearby middle class residential neighbourhood into consideration, the store rapidly developed into an important and successful shopping mile.
Two more floors were added in 1929 and the store again enlarged in the 90s, adding an impressive rooftop with a winter garden.

However, a visit is definitely worth it, particularly the grocery store and delicatessen, found on the top floor and inviting to people- watch well-off Berliners, enjoying champagne and oysters...maybe it is time to treat yourself?!?!

the shoe-section used to be pretty good, but now they've changed everything and the selection has unfortunately become very limited.

you GOTTA go to the very top floor!! theres a restaurant (quite expensive, but also good), but whether or not youll eat there - the view is great! the grocery store will actually give you a prize if theres any grocery in the world they dont offer... good luck!
