The Berlin Television Tower, refered to as "Telespargel" (TV-asparagus), was built between 1965-69.
Even though it is common for large cities to have a broadcasting tower, the location of Berlin's tower is quite exceptional, marking the center of the capital with its 368 meters.
The tower with its technically modest structure is situated on the west side of Alexanderplatz. After the war, the SED leadership of the former GDR wanted to build a modern, powerful downtown for the GDR capital representing the political and economic power of the socialist republic.
Nowadays, visitors from all over the world enjoy the view and restaurant in the seven-story globe, 250 meters above ground and rotating around its own axis.
Recommendation: Better to be visited at less popular times, e.g. in the early morning. Otherwise long queues to be expected...

even if you don't go up it, this is one of Berlin's unmissable landmarks, if only because you can see it from literally just about anywhere in the city. If you think you can't, try jumping up and down a bit :-)

Nice to visit, but bear in mind that the queues are enormous at peak times. Be prepared to go early in the morning or wait for an hour or two.
Great views from the top, a little crowded though...
