Also known as "Rosarotes Rathaus" (pink townhall)- due to the sexual orientation of Berlin's mayor, Klaus Wowereit, once famously quoting:"I am gay and that is a good thing!"...

Anyway, although officially called Berliner Rathaus, the building erected between 1861 and 1869 in the style of the north Italian High Renaissance, is still mostly known as the Red City Hall due to the distinctive colour of the facade design made out of red clinker bricks.

However, after the reunification the unified administration of Berlin officially moved back in 1991, being home to the governing mayor and the government of the state of Berlin.
The "Steinerne Chronik", a steaning chronicel illustrating the story of Berlin until 1871 in the form of 36 plates, each impressive 6m long, runs all around the buildung and was attached in 1879. Therefore, even though entering the landmark is possible it is much more interesting to be seen from outside...

A very nice Building. and next to the huge DDR Alexanderplatz. You´ll still find the Athmospere of East Berlin there.
