Featuring in the popular 2001 film "Amelie", mentioned in the song "Evil and a Heathen" by the British band Franz Ferdinand - the 1880 build majestic building has not lost its appeal.
The Sacré-Cœur Basilica ("Basilica of the Sacred Heart"), a Roman Catholic basilica and popular landmark dedicated to the Sacred heart, is is located on top of the Montmartre hill, the highest point in Paris.
The monument was once built as moral condemnation of the sins of Paris, which were meant to have caused the defeat of the French army against Prussia in 1870.
The grand basilica in a Roman-Byzantyne style and with its large dome towers 83m above the French capital and, furthermore, stands out as far as its architectural style is concerned as most buildings in France were build in a Romanesque style. Altogether, the goal was the construction of an imposing basilica true to Christian traditions - well done!!
Free admission; dome €4.50.

I used to come and eat lunch here when I lived in Paris. We would sit on the walls and try to make the living statues laugh. Ah, those were the days :D
